Donation pickup

Good furniture that deserves a second home, picked up and sent on

Usable furniture and household goods are routed to donation whenever possible, with the crew doing the carrying.

Why does usable furniture end up in the basement?

Most good furniture is not thrown out because it's worthless. It sits because moving it takes a truck you don't own and a Saturday you don't have. A dining set after a downsizing, a dresser from a bedroom that became an office and a bookcase from a kid's room all wait in a corner of a house in Montvale for someone to carry them out.

Donation also asks for effort that people underestimate. The pieces have to be cleared, lifted, and loaded, and then taken somewhere that will have them. By the time the afternoon is half gone and the sofa is still on the porch, it is easy to give up and call it junk.

How does the crew decide what can be donated?

Send a photo of the pieces or an item list, and the estimate comes from that. The final price is confirmed on site. The crew looks at condition as it loads: clean, sound pieces are routed toward donation, while anything broken, soiled or past use goes to recycling or proper disposal.

The crew does all of the lifting, loading and hauling, and sweeps up afterward. You don't have to be there once access and scope are confirmed, so a house getting ready for sale can be clear before the agent's walk-through. JunkDoctors donates and recycles whenever possible, which is part of how the work is done rather than an extra.

What does a donation pickup cost?

Donation pickups are priced like any other: $185 to $250 for one or two items, with extra-heavy items, generally over 150 lb, oversized pieces or difficult access able to raise the price. Larger loads are priced by volume on the 25 cubic yard truck, from $350 for a 1/16 load up to $1,985 for a full truck.

Labor, loading, hauling, disposal fees and sweep-up are included, and there is no hourly rate. Not everything that is offered can be donated, and what can't is recycled or disposed of properly. The crew will not take wet paint, chemicals, fuel, gasoline, propane tanks, pesticides, asbestos, medical waste or unknown liquids.
