Sofas, sectionals and dressers carried out without a scuffed wall

The crew takes furniture out of bedrooms, basements and living rooms, down whatever stairs the house has, and loads it on a 25 cubic yard truck.

Why does a sleeper sofa get stuck on the way out?

Furniture goes into a house while the walls are bare and the staircase is open. It comes out years later, after the landing has gained a turn, the doorway has trim and the hallway is lined with family photos. A sleeper sofa, a sectional in three pieces or a solid oak dresser can wedge on a switchback stair in a Montclair colonial, and one person pushing from below rarely frees it.

Weight is the other trap. Dressers with the drawers still full, bunk beds bolted together and a hide-a-bed with its steel frame all pull harder on a back than they look. People try it alone, scrape the banister, and give up with a couch jammed in a doorway. That half-moved piece is usually the reason the call comes in.

How does the crew get a big piece out?

Send a photo or a short video of the piece and the path it has to travel, or just list the items. That is enough for an estimate, and the final price is confirmed on site once the crew has seen the stairs and doorways for themselves. Sectionals get unbolted, bed frames come apart, and legs come off before anything is turned on its side.

The crew does all of the lifting, loading and hauling, then sweeps the spot where the furniture stood. You don't have to be home once access and scope are confirmed, which suits a Hoboken apartment or a second-floor bedroom you would rather not watch being emptied. The crews are in-house New Jersey employees, not subcontractors, trained to move heavy pieces.

What does furniture removal cost, and where does it go?

One or two pieces fall under the single item pickup price of $185 to $250. Extra-heavy items, generally anything over 150 lb, oversized pieces or difficult access can raise that, and the on-site confirmation is where it gets settled. Labor, loading, hauling, disposal fees and the sweep-up are all included, and there is no hourly rate.

A whole bedroom set or a furnished living room is better priced by volume on the 25 cubic yard truck, starting at $350 for a 1/16 load and $485 for a 1/8 load. Anything still in decent shape is donated whenever possible, and the rest is recycled or disposed of properly. A dresser still holding paint cans needs those set aside, because wet paint, chemicals and fuel never go on the truck.

Furniture pickups run $185 to $250 for one or two items; a bigger set is priced by how much of the truck it fills.
