The soaked boxes, the ruined furniture and the basement floor underneath

After a flood, everything the water touched has to leave the house. JunkDoctors carries out the wet contents so the space can be dealt with.

What a flooded basement leaves behind

The water goes down, and what it leaves is heavy. Cardboard boxes turn to pulp and tear when lifted. Couches, mattresses and rugs hold gallons. One job photo from a New Jersey basement shows the floor covered in wet boxes, stacked and sagging, with the walking space gone. Nothing in that pile is going back on a shelf, and most of it is too heavy for one person to carry up a stair.

Wet contents get worse each day they sit. Odor builds in a closed house, and anyone planning repairs cannot start until the floor is clear. Homeowners across Middlesex and Morris counties know the routine: the photos get taken, the calls get made, and then comes the question of who hauls it all away.

How the crew clears a wet basement

Send photos or a short video of the flooded space, or a list of what is down there, and the estimate comes from that. The final price is confirmed on site once the crew sees how much is wet and how dense it is. Same-day or next-day service is often available, seven days a week, and emergency removals are part of the schedule.

The crew does the lifting, and with wet contents that is most of the job. Soaked boxes come out in loads that will not split on the stairs, heavy furniture comes up with several people on it, and the crew sweeps the debris that falls along the way. In-house NJ employees do the work, trained for it, with no subcontractors.

Everything loads onto 25 cubic yard trucks, bigger than typical junk trucks, so a full basement of wet material takes fewer trips. Items that dried out and still work can go to donation, and metal and electronics are recycled whenever possible. The customer does not need to be home once access and scope are confirmed, which helps when the family is busy with an insurer and a repair schedule.

Price, limits and the empty floor

Flood cleanouts are priced as specialty cleanouts on the 25 cubic yard truck: 1/8 load $685, 1/4 $985, 1/2 $1,685, 3/4 $1,985, full truck $2,500. Specialty cleanouts price higher due to extra labor, sorting, access, or dense contents. Wet material is dense and heavy, which is what that note covers. Labor, loading, hauling, disposal fees and sweep and clean-up are included, with no hourly rate.

JunkDoctors removes contents and debris. It is not a water-restoration company, so the crew does not dry structures, test air or remediate. It also will not take wet paint, chemicals, fuel, gasoline, propane tanks, pesticides, asbestos, medical waste or unknown liquids. If paint cans or cleaners were sitting in the water, mention them at the estimate so they are set aside.

Jamie M Webster of Dunellen, NJ wrote: "The crew came in and had everything from our flood taken out of the basement within 2 hours. They were fast, pleasant, and great to work with." The after photo from a flooded-basement job makes the same point in a different way: a bare floor with nothing wet left on it, ready for whoever comes next to dry, repair or finish the space.
