A retail space stripped to bare floor between one tenant and the next

Shelving, counters, display fixtures and leftover stock removed from a closing or changing storefront. The crew carries, loads, hauls and sweeps.

A storefront with the sign down and the fixtures still up

When a shop closes or a lease changes hands, what's left is usually the store itself: slat-wall panels, glass shelving, checkout counters, back-room racks, boxes of unsold stock and a few chairs that were never anyone's job to deal with. The owner is busy with whatever comes next, and the landlord wants the space ready to show.

Our Jersey City photo of an empty commercial space with bare carpet is the picture owners and landlords describe when they call, though they usually call from the other side of it. Retailers and landlords across Bergen, Morris and Union counties can have a few days, a pile of fixtures and no idea who will take a glass display case.

Fixtures, stock and back rooms, loaded in one pass

Send photos of the sales floor and the back room, or a rough list of shelving, counters and boxes, and we'll estimate from that. The final price is confirmed on site. If the landlord needs set access times or you have a key arrangement, tell us up front; once access and scope are confirmed, you don't need to be there while the crew works.

The crew takes fixtures apart where they need it, carries them out, loads the truck and hauls. They are our own employees, not subcontractors, and each 25 cubic yard truck holds a lot of shelving. Usable display furniture, racks and goods can go to donation, electronics and recyclable material to recycling, and the floor is swept at the end of the job.

Price, limits and the empty shell you hand back

Think in truck fractions. A lighter retail space with a few shelves and a counter might fill a 1/4 load at $685 or a 1/2 load at $985, while a stockroom-heavy shop can reach 3/4 at $1,685 or a full truck at $1,985. A 1/16 load starts at $350 and a 1/8 load is $485. Labor, hauling, disposal fees and sweep-up are inside each figure.

Stores that carried paint, cleaning products, lawn chemicals or fuel cans should plan separate handling for those items, since wet paint, chemicals, fuel, gasoline, propane tanks, pesticides, asbestos, medical waste and unknown liquids stay off the truck. Everything else, from shelving to cartons of old stock, is fair game for the crew.

The finished space is the empty shell from our Jersey City photo: bare floor, open walls and the sweep-up done. The landlord has nothing left to haul out before the next fit-out, and the next tenant can walk in and see the room's real size for the first time in years.
